The city of Bee Cave, located about 12 miles west of Austin, did not officially exist until 1987. It gets its name from the colonies of Mexican Honey Bees that lived in the banks of Barton Creek and Little Barton Creek. Don’t worry, there are as many bees here as just about anywhere in the area. Bee Cave is part of the Lake Travis Independent School District and is considered to have some of the best schools in the area. Some of its best neighborhoods are Bella Colinas, Falconhead, Homestead, Spillman Ranch, and Uplands.
